“Running As Design” Lecture + Race Weekend Photo Diary

Quick one here. Most of the weekend really was spent working a few events + giving a lecture before the race. I did a talk with Steve Finley detailing how we trained for Chicago + how to approach running more as an “art” than a strict regimen. The slides are kinda shitty, but the concepts are valid.. It is interesting to look back on my work and see how much it has improved. The core points of the presentation are still wildly valuable. I’ve shared a few and the second slide below is, IMO, the simplest holy grail of running if you know how to decipher it.

For Chicago 2019 we really also changed the way I trained. I didn’t have a lot of time so most sessions were short and a lot more high intensity instead of volume and distance. My bet was, because higher intensity work can still improve aerobic capacities, I was athletic enough to run sub 3 without high volume. It paid off and the slides below kind of summarize that thought. I’ll get into this more as we continue to build out the site / archive.

Here are a few more photos from the weekend, including race day.
